By: Karen R. Thompson, LMSW, CEAP, CAADC, EAC Clinical Specialist – There have been many silver linings that have come out of the pandemic. One significant change that is likely to continue long-term has been the use of telehealth. The pandemic resulted in expedited changes in health care delivery and the widespread use of telehealth for both routine medical care and mental health services. For many, it has become a lifesaver, removing barriers, and improving access to services. Utilization of telehealth counseling has remained strong especially for outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling.
Throughout the pandemic, providers and patients quickly developed an increased comfort level with the technology for video visits and people have recognized the value and convenience. There are various reasons people may choose telehealth over in-person sessions including reduced travel time, reduced waiting room time, childcare issues, and saving money on transportation. Both public and private insurers have since permanently expanded their coverage to include telehealth.
Employees have busy schedules with managing both work and home life. EAC is pleased to be able to offer the options of in-person, video and telephone counseling to meet the individual needs of our clients.
