My last post recommended two mindfulness techniques to practice and help you focus on the present. I hope you had a chance to try one or both. Another way to incorporate mindfulness is to embrace each day with gratitude. The word embrace means: “to take or receive gladly or eagerly, accept willingly.”
Begin each day, before your feet hit the floor, by thinking of three things for which you are grateful. Get out of bed, open your journal (if you do not have one, get one) and write them down. Then, turn on an inspirational or motivational podcast or video. The Internet abounds with free recordings from such speakers as: Earl Nightingale, Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins or Jack Canfield. Find someone who inspires you. You might consider a friend of mine’s podcast, “Your Journey to Greatness Through Routine” by Michelle L. Steffes.
Once you’ve done these things, you can turn on the news, look at social media or check your email. Helen, a former colleague of mine, would often say, “Well begun is half done.”
Do you have a morning routine or ritual that sets you up for success? Please post it here.
