What Are You Predicting For 2016?

This time of year, we hear the pundits predict the future on subjects like the economy, the 2016 presidential election, or the super bowl (just to name a few). What are you predicting for 2016?  I am not asking about your vision on a national level, but rather on an individual level.  Many people think of the New Year as an opportunity to make BIG change and have the upcoming year become way different than then previous one.  It is possible and there are stories of people whose lives look vastly different in the next holiday season then they did the last, but for many people, 2016 will be much the same as 2015, unless they change their approach to how they live their daily lives. Socrates is often credited with saying “the unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates believed that people are on this earth to grow personally and spiritually, and unless you take a look at where you’ve been, you can’t fulfill your destiny.  It is with this in mind, that I will encourage you to take a look back at 2015 and journal the answer to the following questions:

  • How would my spouse or significant other rate our relationship on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best it can be)? If the answer is less than a 10, what can I do in 2016 to make it a 10?
  • How would my best friend rate our friendship on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best it can be)? If the answer is less than a 10 what can I do in 2016 to make it a 10?
  • How would my boss rate my work performance on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best it can be)? If the answer is less than a 10 what can I do in 2016 to make it a 10?
  • How would my coworkers rate my job performance on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best it can be)? If the answer is less than a 10 what can I do in 2016 to make it a 10?

I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’m asking you to write about what you can do to make a difference in the lives of others and not the other way around. There is research that suggests when we focus on what we can do for others, we become happier as a result.  So, what do you predict for 2016?  What will you do to make the lives of others better? I’d love to hear from you.
