In my last post, I suggested a way to develop an attitude of gratitude for you. This week, I’m going to suggest ways you can do that with your team.
We have the power to influence the energy of the group we supervise. When we make the choice to respond in an encouraging manner, it will create a positive response from our team. This is what it looks like on the job: Do you smile and acknowledge people? Do you respond to their requests in a timely manner? Do you recognize their extra effort? Do you say thank you for a job well done? Do you listen to their suggestions? Remember, your automatic response to people will make the difference in the long run. Small things can make a big difference in creating a work environment where people want to be and want to make a contribution to the good of the organization. Here are a few ideas to create that environment:
• Create a “celebration board” where people can use sticky notes to post the good things that happened in the day, or where they can acknowledge the good work of their colleagues.
• End your next team meeting asking people to share what they liked best about the meeting.
• Write a thank you note to individual staff members recognizing their efforts.
People will not remember what you say or do, but they will remember how you make them feel. I’d love to hear what you do to create positive energy on your team. Post your ideas below.
