Our webinar this month was entitled: How to Work with People You Can’t Stand. One of the resources recommended is a book by Dr. Rick Brinkman and Rick Kirschner. Their book describes 10 types of difficult people and ways to effectively deal with them. In describing a variety of situations, the authors often suggest a great way to calm our own emotion associated with the difficult person. They suggest deep breathing. By bringing our focus internally and on our breath, we can create a sense of calmness. When our mind is calm, we can problem solve. It is a simple step, yet it requires practice. So here’s my invitation for this week – practice this technique several times a day so you are prepared when the encounter takes place. Just breathe. Let me know what happens.
